Mission
The Central Ohio Pediatric Society (COPS) is a professional medical society devoted to education and socialization whose purpose is to promote the optimal physical, mental, and social health and welfare of children and adolescents.
Goals & Objectives
COPS enhances the role of the general pediatrician and pediatric subspecialists as providers of high quality healthcare for children and adolescents. COPS promotes continuing medical education through monthly dinner meetings and topic seminars, and advocates for children and adolescents in health care issues.
COPS is also active in many forms of outreach in the local community and serves as liaison to the Ohio Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics (www.ohioaap.org) which is the local chapter for the American Academy of Pediatrics.
History
With its establishment in 1949 by 12 pediatricians and then Pediatric Department Chairman of Children's Hospital, Dr. Earl Baxter, the Central Ohio Pediatric Society has sought to provide fellowship and education for its members, and a forum with which to inform the Central Ohio community about issues concerning the health and well-being of children and adolescents.Since the establishment of COPS more than 60 years ago, Nationwide Children's Hospital and the Central Ohio Pediatric Society have had a mutually beneficial relationship and have been partners in the provision of high quality health care. The community and hospital-based pediatricians in Central Ohio have helped to nurture and organize both institutions.
